ICT is an independent think tank providing expertise in terrorism, counter-terrorism, homeland security, threat vulnerability and risk assessment, open intelligence analysis and national security and defense policy. The Course Syllabus FACULTY Course Director: Professor Boaz Ganor | Dean of the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy & Strategy and Founder & Executive Director of the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya Course Academic Director Dr. Ronen Hoffman | Dean of the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy & Strategy and Founder & Executive Director of the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya COURSE OBJECTIVE The scope of terrorist attacks launched in the US post-September 11, the growing threat of the use of unconventional weapons, and the spread of a radical-Islamic network of terrorism have transformed the once localized threat of terrorism into an international problem. By intentionally targeting civilians while exploiting the freedom embedded in liberal-democratic values, terrorism presents a difficult and complex challenge to decision-makers and counter-terrorism experts. In order to effectively deal with the phenomenon of terrorism, decision-makers must address various dilemmas related to counter-terrorism: coping with the threat on an offensive, pre-emptive, and defensive level; collecting intelligence; and responding to terrorism through deterrent, punitive, and legislative measures. The aim of the course is to analyze the current terrorism threats faced by Israel and learn, through a combination of lectures and field trip, from the extensive Israeli experience in countering terrorism. Students are required to attend all classes, yours and any assigned supplementary activities related to the course. Classes will consist of lectures, guest speakers, and on site tours. *The course, its content and lecturers are subject to changes. About Accreditation IDC-Herzliya is accredited by the Israeli Ministry of Education and the Council for Higher Education. The University maintains study-abroad agreements with many top academic institutions in the United States and worldwide. If your school does not appear on the list of schools with credit transfer agreements, we recommend consulting with your home study abroad office about whether credits received through this program can transfer. Even if your home school appears on the IDC list, we still recommend consulting with your home study abroad office in advance to confirm the credits will transfer. Who is this for? Open to all undergraduate students, but ideal for students focused on international relations, political science and criminology.
